You’d think we’d have every coffee gadget under the sun. And those devices have certainly made their way through this kitchen (Matthew loves to test new gadgets). However, I find myself every morning lately marvelling at the simplicity of our coffee system. It goes like this:
Step 1: Boil water on stove. In a pot.
Step 2: Put ground coffee in this coffee thingamajig (brought to us by lovely friends from Costa Rica).
Step 3: Pour hot water over coffee.
Step 4: Dump coffee grinds into garburator.
Super simple and what I would consider the most environmentally-friendly (the hardest thing is not forgetting to put a cup under). You only make what you need and there is nothing that gets put in the garbage. You can also customise your coffee (half-caf for me: 50% Knowlton + 50% Swiss Water Decaf). It makes a decent cup of joe too – though you have to experiment with how much coffee you put in the doodad.
In a world of “what’s next?” gizmos (the coffee industry is laden with them), this is a great little simple device. Though this beautifully simple version is on my wish list this year.
